I use thermal cameras for home inspections so I've seen a few, this thermal stands with some of the best. And no other thermal camera I've used can see distance like this device can. (Obviously it's made for that) I bought it for my hunting rifle but I plan on carrying it with me for energy audits on exterior of homes now too. It has a great image and can see a very good distance, at least for my area it's perfect.
The first night I had it I took it to a small patch of woods behind my house. I got a deer and a rabbit on video, where the deer was Im not sure I'd have seen it in broad daylight but he showed up definitively on the thermal scope. The rabbit I'd have also walked right by. Little guy heard me and hunkered down in some brush. Could not see him with my flashlight, just eye shine. Scope had no issue, I could make out the outline of a bright red rabbit (red hot mode, outside temp was about 35f) I got closer and closer just seeing what would happen rabbit stayed frozen in place until I was maybe 20-30 feet. Hard to tell it was pitch black. Rabbit jumped and ran at a time when I was moving and though I tried I could not navigate looking through the scope.. (A mechanical zoom taking it to 1x would be nice, maybe on my next purchase) I could clearly see the glowing spot where the rabbit had been. I cannot wait to hunt with this .. literally Predator style..
It shows about the same image day or night looking at the road in front of my house. Just watch out for the SUN, it has a "protection" mode to close the shutter if it detects damaging heat but I know for a fact high heat will damage the sensor and I'm not relying on that working quickly enough to not damage so I'll be very cautious in day time. Very happy with my purchase.
Also the team at Outdoor Legacy is Top Notch. I had a few questions about the internal battery and external battery and how they would work together. I sent an email and got a phone call back!! I was able to speak with Ashley who I could tell has a passion for such things and he set me straight with all the questions I had.
I will definitely buy again from this company, soon as I save some more milk money.
Also shipping was good, I think it was maybe 4 days from paying to having it in my hand.
